SHURTLEFF TO ADDRESS NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING SYMPOSIUM IN SALT LAKE CITY
Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will speak at a national symposium targeting the growing problem of trafficking women and children. The 2012 Trafficking In Persons Symposium is being held April 10-13 in Salt Lake City and will include federal, state and local law enforcement leaders, educators, victim advocates, survivors and other experts from the U.S., Mexico and Canada.Shurtleff will talk about the "Pillars of Hope," the 2012 initiative of the National Association of Attorneys General to stop human trafficking. The four pillars are: Making the Case on Human Trafficking, Holding Traffickers Accountable, Mobilizing Communities to Care For Victims and Public Awareness and Issue Advocacy. The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is hosting the symposium to gather information and develop programs to stop human trafficking. Participants will also hear from U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah David Barlow, Chief Deputy Utah Attorney General Kirk Torgensen and "Sex + Money: A National Search for Human Worth" documentary producer Morgan Perry. The Symposium is being held at the HiltonSalt Lake City Center, Canyon Room, Second Floor, 255 South West Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. General sessions and panels will be open to the media and interviews can be arranged with some of the participants.
