Departments

The Solicitor General oversees the Appellate Department, which handles appeals for the state. This department also defends Utah’s laws and constitution. 

The Civil Department provides legal counsel to state agencies and public officials, in addition to representing the state in civil legal matters.  

The Criminal Department investigates and prosecutes criminal acts throughout Utah.  

The Public Protection Department handles antitrust matters and represents the Utah Department of Commerce and the state of Utah in legal actions related to consumer protection and fraud. 

Administration

Administration oversees the operations of the office, including managing the budget, legal support, technology, and software.

Utah wins federal court ruling in housing energy standards case

A federal court has ruled in favor of Utah and a coalition of states in a lawsuit challenging federal agencies’ implementation of expensive new energy efficiency standards for residential construction.
