Constitutional Defense & Special Litigation

The Constitutional Defense & Special Litigation Section defends lawsuits that challenge the constitutionality of Utah laws and regulations. The team of dedicated trial attorneys and staff in the CDSL Section has defended a number of well-known cases during Attorney General Reyes’s tenure, including Utah Republican Party v. Cox (the SB54 litigation), Kitchen v. Herbert (challenges to Utah’s same-sex marriage laws), Brown v. Buhman (the Sister Wives case), England v. Hatch, et. al, the Ute Tribe litigation, and Public Land jurisdiction and sovereignty cases.
